Just to update you on our happenings:

Sweetie-

A few weeks ago we rescued a Springer from a shelter in Moultrie, Ga. She is a very pretty and sweet liver and white young lady. Marilyn Gorman groomed her, took her to Crabapple to get checked out and then Leslie Paulsen fostered her for about a week before she went back to Marilyn's for continued fostering. Marilyn named her Sugar and then changed it to Sweetie as that is what everyone seemed to call her when they looked in her face.  Everyone who has come in contact with this little girl has said nothing but great things about her - she is a perfect lady.

Marilyn came home one day this week and knew something was wrong with her - rushed her to Crabapple Knoll. Sweetie had 12 dead puppies inside of her!!!! They were about 25 days old. Needless to say Sweetie had a very serious and complicated Spay procedure. She is doing fine now, thank goodness, and will start her heartworm treatment on Monday - yes, can you believe she had heartworms as well!!!! This little girl is probably not more than 15 months old and was NEVER taken care of. Well, she is getting the royal treatment now!!!

The best news is that after she completes her heartworm treatment in the capable hands of Marilyn - she will be adopted by Marilyn's brother, Bob, who will love and cherish her.

Caroline-

We got a call from a shelter in Shreveport, Louisiana about a male Springer. The pictures they sent looked like a Springer but one in terrible condition.  We had someone from another rescue group go to the shelter to confirm. A transport was arranged from Shreveport to Baton Rouge, La. He - turned out to be a she - was overnighted with a kind lady who gave her 2 baths and shaved some of the mats off half of her body. She was in fact in deplorable condition. The next morning she was taken to our vet in Baton Rouge who gave her another bath and shaved the remaining mats off. It turns out she had a severe case of pneumonia and went to the Rainbow Bridge the next morning. The next female Springer we take into rescue will be named Caroline - in honor of her. This was a very sad day for us.

Applications

We have been swamped with applications, as you can see from Sandi's requests for home visits :-) These home visits are really important and we appreciate those of you who offer to help. Thanks to all of you who are doing telephone interviews and vet checks as well - all are very important. Hopefully we can get these processed and approved and the next time we get notified of a Springer needing rescue- his or her home will be waiting in the wings!!!

Have a great weekend and give your Springers a hug!!!!

Rescue Update (December 7, 2007)

Here we go.

Currently in Foster Care:

Hannah is a 7 year old sweetie in the loving care of Diane Samdahl in Athens, GA.

Kaplan, Kelsey, Jake, Emma, Sage, Trouble, Charlotte, Emily are all well deserving boys and girls, waiting for their new families and being fostered by Amelia Hudson in Quitman, MS.

Niles is a handsome lover boy who has his foster Mom, Leslie Allen, so in love with him, I suspect they will never let him go.

Mackie is an adorable Cocker Spaniel biding his time in Haddock, GA with Hurb Ingles until his new forever family is found.

Tony is a real charmer in the loving care of Mickey & Marilyn Creek.

Fergie is a special girl in need of all of our good thoughts and prayers.  Fergie was picked up from a shelter in south Georgia and had recently delivered pups. She has been fighting swollen mammary glands ever since and has recently been diagnosed with cancer. Fergie has been cared for by Marilyn Gorman and Ann Mansel and is now in the wonderful care of Eileen Parker. I hear that Fergie is settling in well with Eileen's boys, but she has a difficult road ahead of her. The good news is that Fergie's cancer is operable and treatable and she is now in the care of an organization that can and will provide her needed health care. Please keep Fergie and Eileen in your thought and prayers as they struggle through this difficult period.

Max is a 2 year old doll that recently completed his heartworm treatment and is in foster to adopt with Rick & Barb Campbell.

Riley and Matt are being fostered by Beth & Walt Campbell. These boys were neutered earlier this week and are ready for new families to come along for them. But Riley could use your good thoughts as well, as he is having some difficulty recovering from his procedure and is not feeling well tonight.  Matt is another Spanish Fort boy, now in Savannah with Susan Krebs who hopes to soon be in a new forever home.

Cory and Colby are 6 month old boys that just came into rescue this week and are now being cared for by Amelia Hudson in Quitman, MS. Doesn't take a genius to know that Amelia has her hands full!!!

Maggie, in Alabama is still looking for just the right family.

Buffy, a Spanish Fort pup, being fostered by Peggy Crowder will soon be off to her new adoptive home with Martha Lang. Congratulations to both!!!

Danny is another lucky boy, looks to be in his forever home by Christmas.

Phenius, another Spanish Fort pup, who may have coaxed his foster mom into a permanent situation.

Tom is another Spanish Fort boy who is gradually coming out of his shell and learning the loving environment being provided by Bill and Robin Arnold in MS.

Manchester, one more Spanish Fort pup is recovering from his recent neutering and is learning to make himself at home with the loving care of Curtis Flowers in Florence, AL.

Whew!!! Please let me know if I left anyone out!

Incoming:

Looks like Angie has found a temporary foster home for the girl in Birmingham. Great job, Angie!

And Pete Cuttino will be doing an evaluation on a beautiful girl in Georgia. Thanks to Kathleen Toomey and Pete for helping this girl.

Projects:

David Latimer has the new cookbook completed and is now in the proofing stage; soon to be off to the presses. I can't wait to see this unveiled at the 2008 Regional Specialty show in Lawrenceville next January.

Sue Schroer has done a great job getting our new website going. This is an ongoing project, being added to continually. Have suggestions for what you'd like to see on the website? Please let us know. Have stories, pictures you'd like to share? We'd love to post them on this site. We especially need stories and pictures of adoptions and new families for our 'Happy Endings' section. Send your suggestions, contributions to Sue at info@springerrescueGAAL.org. Check out the website at http://www.springerrescuegaal.org/index.htm.

Recent Events:

Great job and congratulations to Judie Lemsky and all who participated in the Petsmart Santa photo event in Birmingham this past weekend. You are the greatest!

Special Mention:

Many thanks to Leslie Allen for stepping in to cover Georgia applications while Sandi is on vacation.

November 2007

Hi all, this week we have.

Adoptions:
On Saturday, Sammy joined his new family in Deland, Florida. Sammy was welcomed into his new home by Danilla another family dog and they have been playing ever since. Thanks to Eileen Parker for taking such good care of Sammy and getting him to his new family.

Max, who was being fostered by Walt and Beth Campbell has now moved into a new foster to adopt home with new Campbells, Rick & Barb. Congratulations and best wishes to this new family arrangement.

Chance (once called Diamond) also went to his new home this weekend.  Thanks to Angie and Gordon Tomlinson for fostering him and getting him ready for his new family.

Miss Spaceship, now called Lexie, has wrapped herself around the hearts of her new foster family and is on her way to being a permanent member of the family with new mom and dad, Margie & Ray Carroll and new brother, Charlie.

I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving. I am sure these pups will, with their new families.

Barbara has been on a role for adoptions lately. I'm not sure if everyone realizes it, but Barbara is State Coordinator for Louisiana as well as Georgia, so any time you see updates here on ESRA GA, it very likely includes LA activities as well, since we are something of a combined force for these doggies.

Adoptions:

Ubu has gone to his new home where he has fast become best friends with the family's paraplegic son. The family says UBU has fit right in and they cannot remember life without him

Stevie's new Mom and Dad are totally in love with him and love the way he takes the stairs in their house 3 or 4 at the time and then hits the door at the bottom as if he were sliding into 1st base!! He has already had his first obedience class!

Pepper went to her new home in NJ this past weekend and they are totally in love with her. Thanks to Pam Civile for fostering her.

Tucker (formerly Tank) went to his new home on Sat and is doing great! New Dad is Mike Easterling who says Tucker is going to be a great dog. Thanks to Margie and Ray Carroll for fostering him.

Dooley went to his new home on Sat as well and is being a perfect gentleman.

Taylor met his new Dad just today and is currently on his way to his new Mom and home in Virginia. Thanks to Amelia Hudson for fostering Taylor and preparing him for his brave new world.

Condolences:

Ben (aka Spot) passed to the Rainbow Bridge last Saturday. Ben was an older gentleman that spent his last precious years happily in the loving care of foster Mom, Janet Jackson. Thank you Janet for taking such good care of Ben for all this time and making his last years, good ones.
