Rescue Updates from Susan Zuker

HI everyone,  I know you heard about the transport and here is the end result.  Annabelle & Cappy reunited & living happily with the Parkers!  These 2 came into our care when their owner could no longer care for them & took them to a shelter.  Thanks to Rachel Palarca who went & sprung them, Connie Vice for fostering Cappy & Claire Boone for fostering Annabelle.

You can see how happy they are now!

Enjoy, Susan

After Cappy left for his forever home, Connie missed him so much that she asked if Sam could come live with her.  Sam came from the same shelter as Cappy & Annabelle & is probably related in some way.  He was fostered by Todd & Dawn Raines and is now living with Connie Vice and has a new name, Rex!

I wanted to let everyone know what has been going on in AL.  I know that we haven’t too many dogs posted this summer, so it may look like nothing is going on.  Generally summer is a dumping time for dogs, but we haven’t experienced that in AL this year.  GA & FL both had 5 dogs come in on one day last week!

But, there is always lots going on behind the scenes!  Below are some highlights:

Sadie and Lily were dumped at the shelter and Jan Savage drove up to get them and then Bryan Whitehead fostered Lily & got Sadie started on her heartworm treatment before she went to Phyllis Workman.  Lily was adopted by a KY adopter that we had been working with before she even made it to the website.  Sadie was adopted just last weekend by a couple who drove all the way from Virginia to get her.  Here is beautiful Sadie's picture.

Patty Howell alerted us to MJ when her owner turned her puppies into the shelter & said he wanted to turn her in too.  The shelter told him about ESRA & Patty took it from there.  Bill Arnold from Mississippi fostered her & took her to Amelia Hudson’s vet to save money on her vetting.  During surgery the vet found mammary tumors that we hope are a result of not being able to nurse her puppies.  A couple from Illinois were planning to adopt her & this turn of events didn’t deter them; they met Bill & MJ in Memphis today and MJ started her journey to her new life in Illinois, drain tubes and all!

We currently have one dog in ESRA’s care in AL and that is Belle who is being fostered by Janet Jackson in GA where she is learning her puppy manners.  Belle is still interviewing folks for her perfect home.

We have 2 possible incoming 9 year old oti’s that Patty Howell alerted us about and Judie Lemsky is working on.

We moved Dolly & Stretch from a shelter in West Memphis, AR to FL a few weeks ago.  These 2 dogs were so sweet and so scared and are making such progress in foster care.  This is Dolly's picture.

We have been checking on Rascal who we found on Petfinder.  He was in the Montgomery shelter, so we were in touch with the shelter on a daily basis to make sure he was safe.  Happily, he was adopted from the shelter last weekend!

We are starting to get more applications which is a good thing.  I know I will miss someone, so I won’t try to list all the names, but lots of you have pitched in and helped with these.

Now is the perfect time to jump in if you’ve been thinking about helping and just weren’t sure what to do.  We always need folks do telephone interviews, vet reference checks and home visits.  All the applications need to be assigned and tracked.  We could really use help doing this and it is basically checking the yahoo mailbox & keeping an excel spreadsheet.  Millie & I can both be back up and help you with this.  We usually get one or two applications a week, so it isn’t that burdensome.  We also check Petfinder on a daily basis to see if there are any springers in any local shelters.  It would be great if someone would take on the responsibility.  It doesn’t take long and we could walk you through it.  And of course we never have enough foster homes and never know when we might need you.  We’ve been lucky that other states have been able to loan us foster homes recently.

Please let me know if you think you can help with anything.  Thanks to all for everything you do.  I appreciate it so much.
